Anyone dreams of making Manga 4 a career?

key17
You don't need to go to Japan to learn Japanese. I'm on course myself, and it's going fairly well I must say.
rinatanchu
No, he wanted to go to Japan to go to school for manga and anime.

I know, I was just saying.

Oh. gotcha.

16 year old me would have said yes. Present day me just draws comics because I enjoy making them whether they get published or viewed at all.

Ha, ha (: I like how detailed you are Rina and yeah I've seen U.S. universities teach Japanese but just letting folks know if you are interested in learning Japanese or furthering your Japanese in Japan 4 the real Japanese experience there is a school in Fukuoka called Genkijacs. They have a website with all the info.A Lil expensive but they specialize in teaching westerners. On the site you can also choose online learning with a Genkijacs..teacher.Also the teachers hangout with you and take their students out to dinner sometimes and stuff. They seem nice (:

Yeah Rina-chan, It sucks to be an animator. How old is that chart? I think it was in the DVD extras for Nausicaa someone telling (complaining) how animators only make $10,000 a year and how that's unfair and needed to change. Sure everyone is a crucial collaborator in anime production but no animators, no animations; same can be said about other staff members though so :/ I was wondering how much seiyuus make. Here in the states, I think the pay is somewhat close. I do know for a fact the main cast for the Simpsons get paid a million an episode; that's very rare though. It'll be nice to make a living off something you love to do but, not to be discouraging, you need to be realistic about it. I agree with Rina-chan advice. Personally I think if you were already in Japan as a foreign exchange student, in middle/high school, you might have a better chance getting into a college that teaches manga because you'll: probably be fluent by the time you take the college entrance exams, received a Japanese education, already adjusted to Japanese society and way of life, and if you don't have the funds, maybe get in with a scholarship (of course that depends of the nature of the scholarship), or even get a visa to get a part-time job. Also I have a feeling you'll need to have some artistic portfolio; so hopefully you'll be a decent artist by then. Who knows what skill/talent level they are looking for? It'll be so cool to be able to say "Yeah, I got a degree in Manga from Kyoto University", like Rina mentioned, you don't need to go to Japan to do it.

I wouldn't dream of doing it for a career. I feel that I can't give the quality to do career, nor could I constantly create new material for that purpose. I'm writing two stories right now for me to draw up later, but I can't even make it satisfactory for myself. I don't expect people to enjoy it if I don't even find it satisfying. For fun though, that's a different story. I'd maybe put some online, but only for fun.

ummm for the record as an animator you can make it as a full time job the thing is that you dont just take only jobs you like, you really have to work at it. not to mention you have to be willing to travel jobs dont come to you you go to the jobs. the jobs that are out there arnt just anime there are tv show , feature films ,forgien films, commercials and depending on what you can do video game animation 3d animation director or animation story boared animation, riggers, script writers, background artist lighting crews sound effects special effects, and sooo much more these are just a few PARTS of animation. if you as an artist learn to become well rounded then there is no issue of can you get a job its an issue of how far are you willing to push yourself to get it. anime is only a very small portion of what is available to animators. and for the record i would not go by the chart off an anime to tell me what i would be making for projects becuase it depends on the company what your doing full tv series film and what they might need you for and what your specialty is you are paid ( for the most part by the number of USABLE art peices you crank out (again depending on what your doing)
