Absolutely nothing wrong with that Jigzy. In fact I'd say there are about as many people or more are using online forums/social networks for just that as compared to using them for hookup sites. Look for group meet-ups or gatherings at public events, not one-on-one meets, and bring your guy with you if both of you will feel more comfortable.

I've met up with people from here in Little Tokyo or at Anime Expo that I have no interest in dating and they all seem cool. They are my friends now :D
