trouble reading japanese

so i just rescently learned all the hiragana so i tried to read a sentence in it and it made no sense at all, like do i have to be able to speak japanese before i can read it because the sentences made no sense

that's because they have a different sentence structure. You can put the words in almost any order in Japanese and it would still be grammatically.

You might be thinking of katakana letters kakashe. That's used for for foreign words. The sentence structure is all Japanese though. I used to self study with: "Japanese for Busy People"

Languages aren't just vocabulary, they're also grammar. Japanese in particular also uses kanji and katakana. Hiragana is just the first step.

One weird trick to enlarging your vocabulary is getting a kids manga. They usually have "cheat" hiragana just above the the Chinese characters that most teen manga have.
