Anyone go to cons solo?

The few I've been too has been with friends who typically like to grab some merchandise and run. I've been wanting to actually get involved and try and meet people though (maybe even volunteer). But yeah, has anyone gone solo and had any success in having fun or making new friends?

I've been to a con alone about twice and still had fun. The first day of cons imo is usually the day the least things happen so I kinda just wandered around and checked everything out. Saturday I ended up making a few friends. Just try talking to people anime,games, if they're in cosplay ask them about it :P.

Sadly yes I do go to cons alone usually its rather lonely. However I have had some interesting ideas though as for group cosplays. I would not even mind financing part of the expenses later on. One Idea was a team rocket group cosplay basically a group of 7 to 10 people dress up as team rocket grunts while another one dresses up as a random pokemon trainer with a pikachu. In character we basically go around and search for that person at the con or if we see them moreover. XD Not the best but would be interesting.

A few times I've been able to drag my cousin with me to some cons but the rest of the time I'm flying solo. I've done room shares a couple of times too but that was the only time I ever was in contact with those peoples. I've thought about doing an artist booth, but you have to register with the state and city for a vendors license and it just felt like too much hassle at the time. I'm also super lazy ^^

It's a totally different experience when you go alone to a con. You can take your time checking everything you want to check, and it's easier to meet new people. This year will be my 3rd AX going alone.

I can only go to cons solo, as everyone I know doesn't take anime seriously, including my fiance. So, I just go on my own because that's all I can do. That being said, going alone does allow me to take things at my own pace. Granted, an advantage with going with others is if there's multiple overlapping panels that you want to go to, you can have someone else get the information from said panel for you, though that doesn't always work either. But the short answer is yes, I go to cons solo, because no one else will go with me because they all think that anime is nothing more than some childish past time.

Okay! Glad I asked, sounds like I'll have to give it a shot next time. Just wish there were more big ones here in the midwest instead of just ~once a year basically. Until next year then...

May I first say, Ryvius, ahem Infinite ;) But seriously, I have gone solo to a con before and I've had a great time all the same, I also made two friends once as well. Whether we stay friends is another matter though ^^; but that's mostly on me and having trouble keeping friendships going once you are a good distance away from people.

I been attending my cons alone oh wait no I did attend with a friend back in 2011 but that was my second con but aside from that I usually would like to go with a close friend but not a group of people as Julio stated it gives you more time to focus on stuff that you want to check out but having a close friend around could be always fun
