Fantasy World Building discussion

^ A lot of missing details there bud

That's also very representative of when you imagine a badass drawing vs what you actually draw

This is a very interesting topic. Like choco, I too enjoy mapping out the details. I like to fill a board up w/ ideas then organize them and plot them to how things would work. After a few breaks and walks, I get some inspiration and add that spark to the rest of the already compiled world. I especially like thinking up the creatures and planes that are involved, which helps to develop the world. Research into some historical tribes and groups of people also inspire me to create more unique groups of people.

I desire to speak of this once more, whilst I flesh out my D&D setting. Also, what does everyone think of doing a sort of open-sourced world lore, kinda like the SCP stuff, but with ideas being moderated or changed slightly to make sure they don't make existing lore inconsistent. (Like how the elder scrolls did things pre-morrowind.)

My irl friends and I are doing just that for our DnD setting. We have three campaigns going currently. 2 which stemmed from the first.

So your DM created the first world, but you guys added enough context behind your characters that allowed you guys to branch out and add more to it? Or are you guys looking down at a map, taking turns, and being like "Here be dragons."?

We've created our own stories started our own wiki. Referencing everybody elses stories to make it all come to together. We are constanly retconning and polishing things out though. Except for the main campaigns which are the definitive canon.
