I got into Hololive around July. Binged a lot of clips at the time due to it being something I hadn't seen before on the internet (didn't pay much attention to Kizuna Ai or Projekt Melody). Eventually, the interest died down and now I mostly watch when random clips get in my recommendations. I have almost never checked out their live streams because of the language barrier. And I'm also not a fan of the English branch (except for maybe Ina). The Japanese characters I like the most (not in any order) are Miko, Watame, Polka, Ayame, Pekora, Okayu and Rushia (honorable mentions for Towa's singing, Fubuki's covers, Haachama's degeneracy, Marine's introduction, Aki's hair physics, Shion's midriff, Luna's "nanoraa" and Matsuri's energy).

I'm not too sure, but the furthest back I could think of would be either Cacao from VS Knight Lamune & 40 Fire or Mariah from Beyblade. I wasn't even 10 at the time.
