I'll give it a go. I did find a much more efficient program, but I still need to draw all the rigs with Krita. It's still quite the learning curve, though. Q.Q

Might I suggest buying Richard Williams The Animator's Survival Kit (Or the expanded edition)? Richard Williams was the director of animation for "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and the book is worth its weight in gold for all the fundamental animation knowledge it contains. It's pretty cheap now too.

TwoShy @twobananasshyofapumpkinpie What do you mean by rigs? I'm not used to that term being applied to 2D animation. Krita has an animation mode with multiple layers, channels and playback frame rates. Or has Krita upgraded and now allows for 'bones' to be added to a picture to be rigged for animation? I might be using an older model of Krita if that's the case...

TwoShy @twobananasshyofapumpkinpie Also The Animator's Survival Kit isn't a program, it's a book meant to help new animator's master the fundamentals quickly. Instead of learning on the go, it'll give you a more focused approach. What to learn, what to learn next and why it's important to learn it in this order and examples of what it's asking you to do. The only shortcoming it has is that it expects you to already be at least an intermediate skill level at drawing.

yuuzora @yuuzora I honestly don't know any of the technical terms for anything. I just now am learning about skeletons and bones. So that's probably what I mean by rigs. I am aware you meant a book. Sorry my English is awful. I haven't been to the library in a while, but it's a good reason to.

I usually hate sax with a burning passion, but can appreciate the talents from time to time.

Spoopy Mommy ® @wei_ying Wahh!? I don't know how you could hate such a beautiful sounding instrument, but to each their own ^^. But then again, I think I just like the sound of mostly every instrument XD. I don't care for the way bagpipes sound

yuuzora @yuuzora My feelings around saxophone are that I'd rather listen to a crumhorn concerto for 48 hours. Mainly some of the most boring, awful droll moments I had to spend in the immigration offices, they always played the same sax music. I don't mind bagpipes, as they're nostalgic, but I can understand why some don't like them. Same with Bassoon and Viola.

Spoopy Mommy ® @wei_ying They should've spiced up the music options XD. And I don't know if I've ever heard a bassoon or viola before?

Eh, a manga/anime studio is more of a secondary goal, but artist burn out is actually the norm. Especially from new artist's trying to break through the landscape which now includes art thieves and AI "art". It's why every few years there's a writer/animator's strike. There have been positive pockets like Kyoto Animation, but karoshi(death from overwork) is a common trope even(if not especially) among more famous mangaka like Akira Toriyama. It's less about laws and more about culture though. It kinda goes back to the renaissance when artists were not deemed important, and yet their work shaped the world.
As far as using just your memory to draw from, that's a good goal. Though to be fair, I rarely use less than two resources to draw from anymore. My memory is probably terrible but using a reference pose saves time when my wrists are fakked like they are. So any time saved is wrist strength saved. So don't be too worried to use what you've got. Even the classical artists used tons of references. Some even used a tool called a camera lucida which was a way for someone to quickly sketch out basic shapes directly from an observation/reference and then later refine the shapes. Finding those tools now though costs quite a bit sadly.

I don't think I do. xD
There is so much to learn and practice, before I would ever consider having the fundamentals down.
I think a good checkmark point is once I am able to draw anything from imagination and bring it down to paper AS I imagine it.
And that's certainly still a long way to go. But practicing these things step by step is really fun!
There is enough spaces for artists that aren't as brutal. It really only gets this brutal on top level, when you aim for Anime and AAA game production, which a lot of artists strife for. Makes sense, since once you have that under your belt and in your portfolio, it opens pretty much all doors.
Anything indie should have much healthier environments.
Not trying to talk you out of it tho; if you got what it takes, go get it!
Anyway, I've been practicing heads the last couple days. Here is a Yelan drawing I am working on.

Yas. I believe you'll be great at it. I'm in that boat of people that really believes anyone can be an artist with enough practice. If you ever want to collab or need help, I'm here. I wondered someday about starting my own manga/animation studio but that's probably thinking too big. What subject has been your favorite to draw so far? Any muses?

I would love to eventually work as an illustrator. Be that in animation or game production.
With drawing, I never really tried before, thinking I lack the talent to ever become good at it.
Watching friends start from nothing and improving motivated me to give it a shot tho.
Aswell as from experience that talent is such a small factor when it comes to becoming REALLY good at something.
What is way more important is putting the work into improving and understanding how to improve.
Feeling the progress from just these few weeks already tho, makes me feel pretty confident I am heading in the right direction and I will be able to work as an illustrator eventually, granted I stick to practicing. :p

Oof, really have to pay more for more framerate? I just use Krita and Synfig because is the poor. lol. They're so smooth though. Are you working to become pro?

yuuzora @yuuzora We did talk before I added you, too. So any form of interaction is fine. The bar is pretty low. Even just liking a comment or picture is fine by me though I prefer people read my profile first so they know what they're getting into. Which is trouble. >)

It's time for painting with Peter! In this super fast, ultra rushed new episode we show you how less is absolutely more and with a few quick brush strokes you can imply detail without actually adding detail. In all seriousness this was done too quickly to be semi-realistic. I just didn't have the time this late in the day to be as thorough as this should have been, but the same principles apply. Without drawing every single strand of hair you can still imply each strand with well placed strokes.

      yuuzora @yuuzora

    yuuzora @yuuzora
In general, though I prefer semi-realism. I fell into bad habits painting each strand by hand. Now that I am faced with a character with hair as long as her ankles I regret being such a lazy potato. So anything to streamline my process will be helpful. I have been working on other projects all day, so I haven't had time to look up tutorials for Krita. x.x

Yuuzora, are you looking for a faster way to do semi-realistic hair or looking for a faster way in general to do hair (regardless of realism)?
