Now that you mention it, he did put an emphasis on it being cruel, when Director kept mentioning she wanted the girl to be raped in the train so that she could justify murdering the soldiers for being horrible beings...

I swear I thought for the longest time San was a female, I didn't want to believe it, except until it was fully impossible to deny. Kinda messed up how he got his legs cut. This manga it's probably feminists nightmares, considering how screwed the social values are within it
