正義の味方 @gundamu Yeah pretty much, the issue is definitely very deep rooted in colonialism. Though at the end of the day most minorities definitely still have strong identities. I mean in my case you'd think I'd have issues with my identity, my family is basically a group of turbo-mutts who range from olive complexions to dark brown but also don't really have many stereotypical "African" features such as wide, flat noses, big mouths/lips. Hell, some of my uncles and aunts even had straight hair and light colored eyes. We've always just identified as "Black" and that was always enough for me.

正義の味方 @gundamu Eh, I think it has more to do with self-hate. To be frank there's just people of color from every ethnic group who are simply obsessed with being accepted by this majority white society we live in by distancing themselves from their own ethnic group and culture. I've seen this with black people, hispanic people, asians, islanders, basically everyone who isn't white at some point, it's just what happens when a minority lives in such a society. I mean it doesn't happen for everyone of course, but there's a lot of people who just grow up without a strong sense of identity and want to latch on to whatever is the most appealing. Which is in this case: Whiteness
