Lamby @momoichi whatcha think? i interpreted the last ep as rick purposefully pulling out mortys aggressive side, but bf-kun thinks its rick protecting them. i like to believe the former but im afraid the latter ios true (so sick of them saying 'oh rick the sociopath!' just to show us time and time again in these newer seasons 'nope hes a normal ass dude that loves his family' its telling one thing and showing the other. i miss old season ricks, when he honest was a piece of shit and his kindnesses were far and few between, making them far more meaningful)

godspell @godspell For these episodes I believe it's a path of healing his ptsd. Jerry destroying that world was a fresh start so far I can tell in epsiode 1 Because he can easily have left them. Also Idk maybe he did purposely do that

Lamby @momoichi what ptsd? his guilt? and it would make sense that hed purposefully set aaalllll that up just to suck out mortys disagreeable side (knowing it would splice him and that the side of morty thats combative would be combative so hed have a reason to take it all out of him to get his agreeable grandson back) but the whole 'get to live their lives' makes it seem like he did do it out of kindness *gags*

Lamby @momoichi i mean i liked guardians, didnt absolutely love it. it was great on superhero movie standards, and its mostly those films i hate. dc is even more egregious (even the batman was bad minus the riddler parts, just so bad its good) youv seen one hero movie youv seen them all. name me a super hero movie that doesnt end with the bad guy dying and nothing of substance is lost. they HAVE to end the same because these are franchises, and any change has to be maintained. even deadpool got whitewashed by making him sane and not making his backstory ambiguous, and his girlfriend dying? shes brought back to life. its insulting to the audience. i like movies that are more than visuals, that evoke emotions, i cant turn my brain off while watching them. you can be silly and goofy and have cliche fight scenes and still have a theme or message. super hero movies are just so empty and vapid and lean on visuals and unrealistic dialogue and quips. idk iv told you all this before, i just really dont like super hero movies. now shit that subverts these tropes like venture bros and the boys? love 'em to death.

godspell @godspell doctor strange 1 and 2. The villains didn't die. The villains for hulk 1 didn't die. The villaness for wanda vision alive. The other villain for iron man 2. The villain of antman 1 and 3. Baron zemo. Red skull. A lot of villains can easily make their return

Lamby @momoichi why? but isnt that so predictable? if i can point to a movie iv never seen and tell you how it ends just by knowing the genre? "hero defeats the villain." the hero never has to grow, never has to really change in any substantial way throughout the film due to their struggle. past origin story they stagnate. internal and external conflicts that never leave a lasting mark. i know he'll win, i know all scarifies will be undone or undercut by something because we have to adhere to the status quo.

godspell @godspell Idk I feel like a marvel movie on my bottom tier when the villain is the same as the hero if he chose to be evil. So boring. Like Captain america 4. I'm super stoked to see how is the new captain america gonna fight the leader with his hulk

Lamby @momoichi like ill give you this, origin story superhero films tend to be really good (minus justice league and avengers, guardians did what they wished they could have done) but everything after is just visual, its surface level, its a slate that must remain blank. now look at spidey verse. one of the villains was his uncle. great conflict! a real, original internal struggle for BOTH parties! not just the hero! the other villains were repetitive, but that was so good. or dr freeze, who just wants to save his wife. or harry osborn, struggled with his fathers mortality but pushed over the edge by betray of his best friend! thats why i like spiderman, although it still kept the green goblin as a villain even after killing him, atleast it permanently altered his daily life and wasnt relegated to the origin story phase.

godspell @godspell I can give you half of the movies aren’t good but there are a lot still with concrete plots with a theme that doesn’t hit you on the head for it.

But it shares the story of alcohol dependency that was based on slowing down the poisoning of his body from his chest piece having to unearth his father invention to hopefully get pass the arguments and fights they had. How his father felt about him. He legit went through iron man 1 dismantling his weapons bc they were too dangerous for even America to use

Lamby @momoichi i mean its an issue with the genre as a whole. no real change can ever happen, and it just makes the supposed conflict pointless. just a time sink. the best themes dont hit you over the head. swiss army man is an amazing movie that had me in tears purely because of the 'just be yourself' angle. it was obvious what it was about from the start, but it preformed it beautifully. the perfect movie should make you reflect on the themes, and now the events acted as a canvas for them. not ever good movie needs a theme, sometimes a cohesive story is enough so long as the ending is impactful in some way. nitram had no theme, but the ending was still a gut punch. the big lebowski is pure theme, and has no real ending because of that. thoroughbreds has no theme but masterfully cohesive events, no line of dialogue is without purpose. what is it to be a super hero if not the paragon of morality? but what IS morality to a super hero? it isnt enough to force them to struggle with this (ie multiverse with green goblin) but to force them to confront this question; superman killing zod. superman sacrificed his own moral code to do what a superhero does; save people. fucking based.

Lamby @momoichi look at ned stark. he sacrificed his honor to lie and say he was working against the crown to save the life of his daughter. that act of compromising his honor makes him more honorable than anyone
