Lamby @momoichi still think its bullshit that the ghost devil was weaker than the curse devil. the fear of ghosts is so much more wide spread and palpable than curses, even in japan!! also i loved that the spider devil was a portal, harkening from the japanese mythos about a spider being able to help you out of hell, but people really, really fear spiders, and i wish they could have shown her as being a bit stronger. also, why make her a humanoid devil? angel and makima made sense as the modern depiction of angels are humanoid and control is a distinctly societal personification these days, but made no sense for a spider. (maybe im bias cause shes the third koolest looking devil and i wanted more from her specifically ;w;)

Lamby @momoichi idk if its sad no one will know, thats kinda the biggest crux being crime; its meaningless. youll never derive a real purpose or closure from a criminal, and i think thats exemplified best if the criminal's motives and face remain as ambiguous and chaotic as the general state of gotham. his parents were not special, they were just two in a countless number of victims, and i think that would lose its meaning if they gave the criminal and motive. i remember one of the batman cartoon spin offs blamed joker goons, do you remember that or am i remembering some fever dream of my childhood xD?

godspell @godspell One of those was joker killed them. Which didn't really make any sense either. I like the theory batman was sent back in time that day. And there was no killer in the alley. Until he realized he had to do it himself.

Lamby @momoichi the anime is coming in late summer/autumn, so we'll get to enjoy (or seethe is mappa models it after zombieland saga [with those awkward cgi transitions] instead of jujutsu kaisen [with the seamlessly blended cgi]) it soon enough. i think part twos coming out next year? cant remember

godspell @godspell Yeah thats one fan theory. That when he was sent back in time by Darkseid after defeating him. He was sent back through time at random moments. One of them theoretically could be the night they died. And he still had the gun that killed Darkseid

Lamby @momoichi mmmm on one hand i kinda like that cliche of 'a sacrifice for the greater good' and your hated enemy being you all along, but i dont think it really coincides with batman's character very well. i think a similar plot point was used in butterfly effect? i cant remember the fuckin movie/show/manga it was used in, but it is a great trope.

Lamby @momoichi i dont know much about it, but it seems to kinda comment on the divide between hand drawn (or atleast 2d) animation vs 3d cgi. plus the sonic character looks hilarious and the bad guy was spoiled for me (but its actually clever and really, really sad) so im hooked.

godspell @godspell Honestly I would and wouldn't watch the animated series. It was amazing but a lot of it was censored due to television excs. Spider-man rarely hit anyone tbh. And you couldn't kill anyone or say you are. It's still an amazing watch

godspell @godspell Of course the comics were the best. That cover of his first appearance is iconic. Him throwing spiderman off a ledge when his powers were fucked. Sony does own spiderman but they have joint custody with marvel pictures. But my theory is all these villains are Andrew Garfields

godspell @godspell he's an artificially created vampire. He was trying to cure disease then made himself a vampire in the process of testing it on himself. He doesn't burn under the sunlight and he feeds on plasma/blood like a vampire. But hes stuck in his form. No turning back

godspell @godspell Yeah it kinda was. But it was an ode to the invisible man and dracula monster films. Especially since they weren't allowed to use supernatural monsters due to restrictions set by law. At this point in time the law fluctuated and they went all out making morbius who was so beloved and can still be in control to have their own series. To this day he still hasn't found a cure

Lamby @momoichi hmmmm not many political manga out there. i sometimes joke that gantz had an anti-immigration subtext. i googled that manga, is it dont by boichi? the art looks really familiar. aggretsuko was great with its commentary on working conditions in japan. manga wise, does mahou shoujo site count? cause i feel like you could argue it tries to shed a light on the mental illness issue in japan

godspell @godspell I need to reread slam dunk bc I feel like I can appreciate it more now. And yeah eyeshield was really good when he wrote. He made it very easy to understand and follow football plays. Hajime is very tough. The author only draws 10 pages now since he's getting In age. But both series create this wonderful story

godspell @godspell Slam dunk should be top tier for me. But I think nostalgia factor wins over me in regards of ippo and eyeshield

Lamby @momoichi oh yeah slam dunk was great, i didnt drop it i just gotta get around to reading it again. that 90s style never appealed to me, but the plot was great. apparently the mangaka used a ton of actual nba photographs for his full page art shot. i find it really interesting that a japanese man would be interested in football, and i know muratas art is top tier, so i will get around to reading it. ippo and finishing slam dunk are priorities though

godspell @godspell I think from the first half it really had me. But by the end it was losing me. Just cause an art bad doesn't mean the message isn't portrayed right. And yeah and the one where suicide equals island
