Hey! I go by many names, only because I have a presence in many places. But, for sake of simplicity, call me one of the following names: DJ T-Tom (my legit stage name), Takeo (a name I use normally for LAN parties and now my YouTube channel), or Tom (my shortened middle name). Either way you go, just remember who you're talking to. I'm 24 as of this writing, and I want to make this very clear: I'm looking for FRIENDSHIP, NOT A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP. Anyways, I'm looking for some real otaku friends, and since I found out about MaiOtaku at a Con, I figured I'd give it a shot...and I'm a little desperate. Sorry, I suck that much. So, a little about me: I don't really belong to a specific fandom, instead there's just a lot of stuff that I really like. I'm heavily opinionated and am an introvert. I'm socially awkward, but I'm also no stranger to performing, growing up in a family of performers (dad's a professional drummer, and mom's a professional Cambodian traditional and folk dancer, and that's just my parents.) I'm a Christian DJ, producer, multi-instrumentalist. I'm a gamer and a nerd (there's a difference, but I'm both). I love doing covers and remixes of anime and video game OST's (though I don't have many as of this writing). I'm a writer, and write a series currently and am working on a web-manga with an artist from Texas (I'm from Minnesota). I'm ex-US Army as well. I'm a little crazy, run a YouTube channel, and I'm a major firearms nerd, and regularly play airsoft and paintball. Phew! Well, I'm here, and look forward to making some real friends, preferably others in Minnesota that I can actually meet up and hangout/chill with. I have also tried to be a voice actor. There are many things to do to become a voice actor. My Physics teacher's sister and a class mate of mine are voice actors and they say the forst thing to do it post work. On Voice.com on youtube, on anysite you cn show off on. Another is to take some sort of theatre classes to practice to not over act (a VERY COMMON mistake in Acting in general) Secondly, decide what type of voice acting and for what genere. Anime voice acting is much harder to get into. And from being able to talk to other voice ctors with experience, they said that Anime Voice Acting tends to be more work for less pay. Video game VA is easy, but hard to get a job in. You have to have connections, or just be absolutely amazing and be found. Upload a lot of random and/or silly videos demonstrating your voice's ability. Thirdly, Get an agent to represent you and get you work. of course it might be expensive, but it will be worth it to get more work.

Thanks for the advice, I'l try to keep this in mind. I have gone to quite a few cons, and a small number of meetups, but again, not much luck with meeting new people. If the key word is "active", then I guess that's something I could work on. I guess I could also try to be more active on this forum, as well, considering that this would be a potential point of meeting people, if at the very least to make new friends.

No not at this time most likely will stay til this site has no users or maybe we might hit a fresh start later this year and get some much needed activity.

@buji: that example is a tad flawed in the fact that food is is necessity. Romance is not. I can choose not to have a GF if I can't find someone I will enjoy my time with; you can't do that with food. But your point about the finding anime otaku on a site like this is true enough. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they are gamers either.
