Define the relationship with the person involved first? I'm a bit of a blunt, straight arrow so I would honestly just ask the person in question where she thinks we'll be in 5-7 years time and my vision of it. Of course, I'll expect some..reaction but it's better than investing 5+ years of time and not knowing if it goes anywhere/last-minute breakup. Everyone has an expiry date after all.
