MANGAKA ASSEMBLE! [Que Epic Music]

redhawk
[Basically what the title says] So everyone who is making a Manga or is thinking about making one gather round so that you can share your thoughts and ideas about your Manga or give tips to those who are aspiring to do one. We should help each other out, and everyone is welcome to this thread.

I'm bad when it comes to actually finishing things, but I am very knowledgeable about drawing technique and more than willing to critique. That said, I have some things I'm working on right now and I'll be more then happy to share it when there is something to share! (like, 50 years from now, haha!)

Welcome Mike, like you I am also working on something as well

Eh, what the hell. I'll tease some of what I've got so far. Right now I'm in the conceptual stage. I have a pretty good mental picture of what I want to do, but I've yet to put much of it down on "paper." (I've switched over to digital drawing via Wacom tablet.) I'm not really going to explain it right now, and some of the panels are out of order or missing. (These images were only ever meant for me, so some panels were just stick figures or notes, haha. Not very exciting...) <br><br> FOUL LANGUAGE WARNING IF YOU'RE EASILY OFFENDED BY SUCH THINGS! Spoiler: The first word spoken by a character is "Fuck." <br><br> <a href="http://digitalartistmike.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/sample.jpg">Prologue Chapter Rough Storyboard</a><br> <a href="http://digitalartistmike.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/apk_concept.jpg">APK Robot Concept</a> <br><br> Note: I don't really consider myself a "Mangaka," but I'd be lying if I said my style wasn't influenced by manga...

Years ago when Tokyo Pop was still around, they'd have an annual contest for short story manga (no more than 20 pages), and the top ten were published in an anthology. So I have a couple of shorts I made but never placed. I actually lost the digital files to my last entry leaving me with some low resolution jpegs which bummed me out. I'm actually a few pages of penciling on a new story, but I keep putting it off. There was nothing like having that deadline looming a few months down the road to enter your short in a contest for motivation.

I always work better under pressure. Right now my life is kinda in a limbo state, so it's hard for me hack out a schedule. I'm trying to go back to school for computer science (basically the exact opposite of art, haha!) so once my life has that kind of direction again I'll be more motivated.

I started questioning the use of panels to divide up a page on my latest project. Seems like their primary use is to maximize space and cut down on the amount of printed pages. But after penciling a couple pages I realized that chances are slim to none I'll actually self print my own books or have it go to a publisher. So now each panel is its own page, in widescreen aspect ratio, since that's what most people are use to viewing anymore. So am I mc nuggets for trying this crazy experiment?

na man your not Mc Nuggets at all, everyone has their own unique style.

^ Agreed, though I'm still going to go the traditional comic route. It saves on the amount of things I'd actually have to draw. (Another of the reasons why they use panels in the manner that they do. Additionally, this can put emphasis on important panels to give them more significance.)<br><br> Back to styles, here's an interesting one! (Though I think this was more-so meant to showcase what HTML5 can do, rather than showcasing a particular comic style. That said, this page requires that you're using an HTML5 compatible browser to view it correctly.)<br><br> <a href="http://www.soul-reaper.com/">Soul Reaper</a>
