@Battlecry: Samurai X was non canon IMO because Watsuki-sensei did NOT want Kenshin to die that way and the movies were authorized by him but NOT created by him

I have to agree with almost all of these; especially like Tomoe's, Maes Hughes, Kenshin,everyone in Wolf's Rain, the puppy in Elfen Lied, etc. I honestly found Light's death to be more pathetic than anything else. I am surprised that no one said Shin Natsume from Tenjho Tenge, which made me cry silent tears in the dark.
