When did Anime become 'weird' in society's eyes?

stand_alone_complex
We all just need to get laid. I mean, no I stand corrected.

Sex mmmmmm well in part I think it's right but hentai will always be there I myself don't really like hentai because some of it it's just sex but if the story it's really good like velvet kiss or something like that then I'll read it or watch it. Still ecchi it's the best of both worlds

ecchi ruins the best part

Meh... Fan service has been a part of anime for as long as I can remember. Even though it isn't intended to be there, it's there regardless. It's a matter of not being a prude and accepting that part of anime and manga and video games for what it is, instead of shunning it.

Ecchi is the best

@wallace614 I second that. Ecchi is wonderful. Especially in an anime with a good story line

I don't think anime is weird in societies eyes..it's the stereo type that comes with it they see as weird. Short and simple.

Here in Japan, don't proclaim that you're an otaku. It's really creepy for them. Particularly because of murder cases, with labeled "otaku"s as murderers. This was also mentioned in OreImo(ore no imouto ga kawaii wake blahblah) Though lately, they're not so hard on otakus anymore since there aren't any recent cases. But basically it all started with the Otaku Murder case.(a lolicon murderer) there are a lot of related cases as well if you care to read up on it. :D

Its still a bad term to use on a person over in Japan. I do agree the Murder Cases and random killings in Akiba didn't help out alot but its getting back to normal again.
