Anyone play an instrument?

It really depends on what you want to play, acoustic/electric and what genres. Although the genre thing isn't that big a deal when you're just starting but it's something to keep in mind.

Oh and how much you want to spend

Like xueli said it depends on your genre of music. I usually go for a heavier sounding guitar when i get one because i mainly do covers for bands that sound pretty heavy. But even if you dont want a heavy guitar you can always buy a cleaner sounding one or just buy foot petals for guitars or amps also have different settings to make your guitar sound how you want it. I mainly play my fender guitar which is clean but my amp has an Overdrive which makes me guitar sound really heavy and allows me to play heavy sounding songs like (light my fire-kotoko) for instance. If i had a clean high pitched guitar i wouldnt even want to play a song that heavy sounding because majority of the cover would sound WAY out of tune or just plain wrong. If you ever do buy a guitar ask the salesman at the Music center to demonstrate the sound it makes. They have to.

I used to play harmonica and xylophone, but I really only stuck with piano (it's been 14, almost 15 years playing piano by ear). I experimented with violin for a bit, but I liked guitar better. And of course I can sing. (as in, hit the notes and sustain them, not like American Idols.) Reading notes, though, is a work in progress. And I'm really interested in a nice wind instrument like the oboe or ocarina so I can play Legend of Zelda things, as well as a harp because I love harps.

Even if you just wanted a junk starter guitar you can always change the way it sounds via electronic addons.

If you could play some Zelda tunes that would be pretty awesome.

@xueli and timmonsxp: Hmmm, I would have to say I would go two routes: both electric and acoustic. Electric, I would want a heavier sound, though it seems if I'm first starting out I would want a clean sound to learn on, and experiment with heavy sounds later (does that even make sense?). I would want electric and acoustic because the music I like to listen to, as well as the music I invent in my head, change gears fairly constantly. Stylistically, it can go from Disturbed or Five Finger Death Punch to ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, and traditional Scottish or English songs. I also get curious about adapting sounds, such as putting a song I've heard on the heavy end to acoustic. I will say, though, one of my main qualifications is it has to be a lefty guitar. I've tried learning on a righty. Several times. It irritates the crap out of me. It's not just the discomfort in my arms and hands, it makes my brain go sideways. EDIT: I forgot to mention price range. As I would be saving up for this, I'd put my price range at between 500 and 1,000 for the guitar, plus what seems fair for equipment, like amps. I don't know how much the equipment costs, however. I was told 500 to 1,000 was fair for a starter guitar, but I would like to hear your opinions on it.

Im left handed for one. haha. But i play right handed guitar. I also shoot a bow as right handed person would. An that's fine. I learned on electric alone. im not too fond of acoustic. however i hear its easier to learn on. I dont know how exactly there both the same basically and the fact that many acoustic guitars bodies are REALLY big and fat and its uncomfortable to reach my arm and hand around the body to play it. Price range varies of course. However there are some good guitars that are good and pretty cheap. I would try craigslist for one but if you cant find a good one i recommend a Fender squire. Its a beginning electric guitar but its not heavy at all its really clean and the body isnt too big. So its a great start. You can find one for about 100$ in some places maybe cheaper.

I play the piano but not as much anymore but my best instrumental in choice is my voice...if that counts lol
timmonsxp
Of course that counts. :3 I think singing is the hardest thing to do honestly.
