A "Normal" Otaku

danawana
I don't know if people have the same problems as I do with fellow Otaku, but I can't seem to find a guy who is really into Anime and can also be appropriate in social situations.
Has anyone come across this problem as well? I mean there's a time to be "moe" or "supah kawaii desssuuu" but not all the time. Gets on my nerves when people can't separate this from daily life. Or be mature about their fandom.
Opinions?

Lol that's so random... Well, to me at least xD I personally don't mind the whole 24-7 Otaku-ness... but then again... I go the mall in my Loli garb xD
Uhm... But to your point, I'm certain they do exist. Heck, one of my ninja friends looks awfully normal when he's not in cosplay. My BF is a J-Rocker and that works in normal situations, especially if you cosplay as a member of Gazette.
I guess my point is they exist... they just may be difficult to come by. Keep hunting =^.^=

There're a lot of them here in my city. Almost every anime fan I know doesn't really show that he/she is one. You would probably never guess he/she is unless you know him/her better...

I'm certainly one of the guys who knows when and what's appropriate - especially after high school, lol! The new matching upgrades track certain personality traits like this that should help, it's one thing I've kept in mind, XD

Lol, I'm probably one of those people who have a difficult time differentiating between appropriate and inappropriate times to express my otakuness xD
Like, I flew to LA last weekend for ALA to hang with Aseyah-sama, Mikiru-san and Samba-san... Totally cool cuz we're all in con mode anyways xD On the flight home... I got an upgrade to first class...and I was totally a tard xD all by myself xD xD
I do have limits... I just lost them somewhere >.>;;; nyah xD

I generally tend to keep my otaku-ness to a bare minamum, such as only at cons or when we had cosplay days in high school. People who have the courage to live it all the time have my respect, but I do feel there is a time and place.

compared to all my anime friend i look like a normal urban youth, but i openly talk about how i like anime and manga (even though i do get made front of about it sometime but wat r u gonna do)

I'm pretty sure i might be classified as one of these guys. I love watching/reading/drawing anime, however people think the way i look that im a pot user/dealer with the way i dress (dont ask me how, thats just the reaction) until they actually ask me. I wont be afraid to admit im into anime, but i wont necessarily show it right off the bat. Like sephiroth said, when its necessary.

I've delt with every kind of cirticism and been made fun of becuase of what I like. There just comes a point when you have to stop caring and do what you like. I think the place most Otaku have trouble with acting appropriate are conventions. Just sometimes it's like they let it all out and it's too much and to inappropriate for the setting. It's all about having fun but no matter what you like you can't have fun when things are shoved into your face. *shrugs* Our socity isn't that accepting of it and you just have to get used to it and be yourself no matter what. (BTW I'm with Serena, I wear Loli to the mall too. =^_^=)

Hm... I guess I'm kind of normal by otaku standards, but a lot of that comes from my overwhelming urge to not stand out to much. (Is to shy for his own good.)
