Do you have any villians you think are just so well written? Post about them here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svSUmFhASRo I was recently watching an analysis of the latest Nikke story event. The villian in the story was one of the most well-written villains I've seen in a long time. If they were to isolate this story and make it live action it would be a box office hit. The original Mustang from Nikke was so fascinating.

I personally think count doku from star wars written well the way he became villian was 100% justified

One villain that comes to mind would be Kuja from Final Fantasy 9. I enjoyed how unlike most FF antagonists, Kuja was given an arc alongside the protagonists. From the earliest introduction he is portrayed as being a stereotypical weapons dealer profiting off of the world's military trade. Later it's shown he's acting as an agent for another antagonist that's trying to save a dying world by stealing the current planet's life force. Eventually once that task is complete it's made known that Kuja would no longer be of use to the greater threats machinations. This inspires Kuja to act on his own terms pitting the protagonists against the other villain so that he can come out in charge of his own fate. https://www.svg.com/img/gallery/the-final-fantasy-9-mystery-that-remains-unsolved-today/intro-1598392946.jpg Then towards the end it's revealed that despite Kuja's successful usurpation of his creator, he was designed with a shorter lifespan than most as a failsafe in case he went rouge. Having obtained the ultimate power to change his destiny only to have it snatched away by a cruel twist of fate, Kuja finally breaks mentally and selfishly decided to kill both planets. The one he initially served as well as the one his former creator attempted to assimilate. https://www.cardkingdom.com/images/magic-the-gathering/final-fantasy/kuja-genome-sorcerer-99736.jpg Having found success in doing just that, it's the heroes that keep fighting in the face of the embodiment of true death that causes Kuja to have a change of heart. Prior to dying Kuja uses the last of his abilities to save his brother Zidane and his friends from being trapped in the void of death he'd created. Kuja's parting words to Zidane is realizing the purpose of living a meaningful life even when it seems pointless. That imminent death isn't an excuse to give up one's life or decide the life of another. Ultimately there was more to life than simply living it for himself and then giving it up to death's despair.
