Stock market addiction

Out of curiosity, what crypto do you like and why?
hell_hound7
So i have been investing in cardano, BTC, and Ethereum. I got Ethereum mainly for the staking. Cardano is basically my hopes and dreams, If it even remotely touches BTC numbers im gonna be a millionaire. Then BTC i have for security. I dont really have a favorite. Im just keeping my money in the crypto market because i have a feeling the US economy will crash.

Why not a stable coin if your goal is security? Out of USD, and you're not taking on as much market risk though it's not as low as traditional banking options like CD's. Crypto has a far higher beta vs the market so I'm wondering how it's safer than the broader stock market.

Well i have an IRA, CD, and crypto. I have yet to invest in actual stocks, i was looking into it but was a bit hesitant due to 1. Needing a couple grand to actually set up an account 2. Not having knowledge on how it works 3. Being afraid to take risks on it. My IRA im sitting at 20k after 4 years and investing in areas that protect against inflation. My CD rate of return is trash anyway so its not even really that reliable. So crypto is like the last frontier for me. The reason why i went the crypto route is because i feel like eventually despite how much government pushes back on it, it will overtake the current currencies of the world. Im taking a gamble basically. Inserting myself in a market that seems to be growing rapidly. I was late to the party and missed out on becoming a multimillionaire buuuut its not TOO late to make some money out of it and protect myself against a total crash. I am also gonna be opening a bank account in another country using their local currency so even ifi lose everything here in the US i wont be dirt poor. Im not a genius when it comes to investing but all my prospects so far have been profitable.

Yeah I'm not a fan of CD's either. I'd be wary about expecting these coins to behave as a hedge against a downturn in the market. All risk assets will go up with inflation and there's pretty decent correlation there. I'm trying to not stray too far into the weeds but the coins except maybe the stable coins, are a risk on asset which makes sense because they appreciate very quickly which is why people like to trade them. You are indeed gambling on people fleeing into crypto in a market panic but I personally don't see that playing out. Staking for interest payments probably isn't the end of the world but is there a lockup period or some means of guaranteed payments? I like the currency diversification though I keep it simple and went with the canadian province gold miners because it's the safest jurisdiction outside the United States, get paid in Canadian dividends, so there's the currency hedge and they're very cheap right now, trading for like 10x earnings in high quality companies and even cheaper in slightly less so. I also like industries with tail winds so green energy, medical MJ, and opportunistic opportunities. You can also just do ETF's.

CDs are a poor choice these days imo. The interest rates just aren't good enough to justify making those funds inaccessible for the duration.
hell_hound7
Yeah the people i did the CD with tricked me >:( so im stuck with the money in a CD until 2022. The interest rate is pretty trash i agree. So i wont be doing any of those at all. What im planning to do with that money i have no clue. But yeah im widening my variety, i want to look into precious metals as well. Maybe thats what im gonna use the CD money for when it matures. Im not even trying to get rich or make more money. But if it happens it happens.

This is just my opinion, but if you're concerned about the market crashing in a devastating way I would look into owning actual assets, especially land. You don't need to go overboard with it, but it's a way to diversify that doesn't tie you to the stock market like many things do.

See i wanted to buy a home but i just dont know where. With the military i can apply for a VA loan and stuff. I mainly want a house so i can stockpile guns, ammo, food, water. I sorta want to build my own home tho so i can put a basement in there or at least an underground shelter. So i might buy a plot of land instead and build my home from scratch.
