Late to the party my friend! Had mine stolen 3 times in the last 6 years. I can thank Kroger for being a wonderful former employer and leaking my records onto the dark web.
No seriously the Kroger grocery company dumped files of employee records past and present onto the Internet before filing for a class action settlement so no one could sue.
Then Trans Union who makes up the 3 major credit bureaus also let loose my information.
I've filed multiple reports to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), local police, and have frozen all 3 (Trans/Equifax/Experian) reports. But I was told multiple times to think of the REAL victims. Corporations. Poor them.

No big deal to me. My info got leaked in like 15 data breaches from banks and credit card companies. Good Fking luck squeezing money out of me. Still though, I'm checking my credit card history daily

A PSA to remind everyone to make an online account with Social Security because most of the fraud I have encountered involved benefits being misused under stolen identities. For instance someone made a Wells Fargo checking account in my name to dump stolen Social Security checks into.
So don't think fraud = only credit cards. Most thieves know that's easy to trace, but most young people don't pay attention to government assistance like Disability or Retirement. That's what's more difficult to track.
However an online account gives you regular access to see if anyone has claimed benefits in your name. You don't have to be a senior citizen or disabled to make the account as everyone with a SS number can create and manage their own file.
