@dyadka_yar the issue is not that it takes a single generation but multiple generations to reach that point. Bad times make strong men, strong men build better futures, better times create weak men, weak men cause bad times. The generations before us faced bad times and now times are good. People get complacent. They get a taste of freedom and want more without knowing the sacrifice that came with it. Just think about it. The generation before fought in wars. We have no wars now. Afghanistan and all that isnt a war it was a stalemate. Im talking real blood and carnage war. Vietnam, world war. We dont know the price of freedom so we take it for granted. That makes us weak thats why i feel america as we know it WILL fall. Thus whole diversity and inclusion bullshit is making us soft. In the attempt to coddle thw weak and accept them in society we force everyone to be weak and the stronger nation who only knows bad will invade and take us over. Then they will get complacent and they too will weaken once the strong ones die. Every empire falls and we are witnessing one as we speak

@hell_hound7 stadiums funded by the tax payers in that state.
its a good argument for universal healthcare, because tax payers already shell out for shit they never use so others can enjoy it

Stadiums have subsidies. I'd much rather that money go into a nationwide bullet train system.

I am one to say screw all government subsidies for all private purposes.

The examples I listed are something of a different nature. The French revolutionaries, the Russian Revolutionaries and the German Nazis were very hardened people. Living through wars, famine and disease that we would find a miracle they survived at all.
What happened there was a demonization of fellow countrymen. Instead of taking a proactive approach to improvement, they simply got rid of something they viewed as being a problem in the society or system by destroying them. That system of thought took a single generation to whip up resentment and go on a murderous rampage.

Ok but what powers that train? Everyone wants clean energy but to create a train capable of powering the magnets for that train solar and wind arent gonna cut it. Let alone hydro.

There are more logistical problems than powering the thing. Big red tape is interstate cooperation. This train would be going from Massachusetts to California. It took decades for NH and MA to come to an agreement for a traditional train system, a private one at that. Going across the US you run into an issue where Missouri could say "screw that train, I want no part of this". Then we end up with a Missouri sized break in the train line. It could be any state from Mass to Cali, not just Missouri.
You could try to federally mandate it, but who the hell are they to tell Missouri what to do?

Even if you have a bullet train stretching across the US. Its not like planes where there is infinite amount of sky they can use. That train would at most make rounds every couple of days. Then think of maintenance. The amount of money that would cost to up keep. You would see prices about the same as planes. Sorry but a bullet train isnt feasible. Its not like japan that is small. Just the state of texas alone is so much space to cover. That project would bankrupt any private corporation or be limited to a few states alone

Panda, you're missing my point. My point is I want something useful for our tax dollars not a stadium for sweaty guys to throw a ball around.
Also, stadiums require maintenance too and so do the sweaty guys who toss the ball around if we're going in that direction.

We started watching Y the Last Man which was a comic dating back to 2002-2008. This was apparently Arc's bestfriend's (and soon my lil bro's) favorite comic. And man, did they pick a spicy time to come out with a TV series where everything it's about (that I can tell so far) is just exacerbated. Good timing, essentially. It's relevant so that's why I'm posting about it here rather than Random. Contains politics, cultural commentary, talks about virus and vaccines.

I have beef with Yorick though, the male protagonist. He's very Soyjak. Hoping there's some kind of learning or realization arc with him. Not saying he needs to go full blown Crazy Rick (the Walking Dead), but they are being clever with how they write him to just be a little bit too pathetic.
