What your saying sounds good on paper, but practically impossible. China has the second biggest economy in the world. Soon to be the biggest economy. The world economy is so intertwined. The Chinese economy depends on the American economy. Just as much as the American economy depends on the Chinese economy. What your saying is the equivalent of China saying to its allies. "Stop doing trade with the US." Other nations would say, why? You want us to ignore one of the biggest economies in the world? It ain't happening. At the end of the day. Money talks, bullshit walks. As long as there is economic incentive. People will do business. @mountain_tiger

Mainly, the US must get manufacturing out of the PRC, even during 2020's Covid spike the CCP seized assets from US companies to accommodate for their own shortages. They also manufacture a lot of the USA's military hardware. This is utterly unacceptable. Ideally, the USA should reopen manufacturing back within it's own borders, but it also considers Mexico as a potential replacement for the PRC. Either would be good enough as long as the USA is able to get it's manufacturing out of the PRC.
@alephy
People will do business, this does not mean that the USA must intertwine itself so deeply with a hostile power that they can do great damage to it by simply not doing business. At the least, it should not rely on the PRC for manufacturing military hardware.

@mountain_tiger do you think we could supplement the loss of the cheap labor by moving it to India? i heard that wer shifting a lot of our manufacturing over there anyways
I'm against us manufacturing these outsourced products because the price would sky rocket for these goods

From a national security standpoint, I agree on the manufacturing of military hardware. But then again. I don't think the new F-22 raptors are build in China. I'm pretty certain those are mostly, if not entirely build in the US. As for everything else. I'm of the opinion that people should do business wherever they want. People should look for the best deal in the country with the lowest price point. That is capitalism at its finest.

India would be a good idea also, they are very friendly to the USA and also want to take a stand against the PRC. Ideally, the USA would be the main manufacturing base, at least for essentials such as military and medical equipment.

Capitalism is a tool, it is not a god to be appeased. Why should a government allow it's enemies to use trade as a weapon against it? There must be limits to protect the nation's sovereignty.

But the main issue then becomes China's greater influence in the world. China already influences alot of stuff such as big tech, big media and such. Should they use their leverage of outsoruced labor and economic power. They can effectively make other mations bend to their will. I mean look at their influence rn people are scared to even get on their bad side. All for the sake of money.

Yeah, that limit is not manufacturing military hardware. How is a Chinese manufactured shirt or pick whatever other petty little item limiting a nation's sovereignty? Riddle me that. Because I don't see it. @mountain_tiger

Reminds me of Thucydides' Trap. Although I don't know a conflict is inevitable to confirm whether it's the Thucydides' Trap.
