I've been keeping my eye on Elon Musk's neuralink. So maybe one day we could go full drive vr pretty soon don't you think? But I'm just dreaming.

I don't trust anything about that, we're being tracked enough by our phones and I don't want shit in my head too.

My main issue with this is that it is not going to save you from death like people claim. What you end up with is an AI that thinks it's you. Your body will wither and die like they always have and always will. Somebody asked the question, "What does it matter where my consciousness is?" The answer is that you merely copied the consciousness over to an artificial construct. Think of it like this, say we created an exact clone of you from organic material. It has all of your memories, DNA and traits. It is the same exact thing as copying your mind to a computer only biological. Now would you be able to see through it's eyes? Feel exactly what it feels? Short answer is no. While it is an interesting concept, I cannot think of too many uses.

Have you played the game Soma? It deals with that very fact. What makes you, you? Another reason why I love Ghost in the Shell so damned much. I just think its an interesting idea to be able to have some way to make it so that death is not as complete as it has traditionally been. You still have to deal with mortality, as there is no true way around it, yet.

also on that note, it is also another way to force you to deal with your own mortality. at least for my perspective, you have this one existence, as far as we know. Try to make something out of it that you dont regret, at least thats the hope. Its mostly pointless to worry too much about things outside of your control. Even if you get a 2nd life as a technical copy, you will still die, as that is the curse of having a mortal body (though there has been progress done on the actual stopping of the biological aging process, even if it is unlikely we will see any true results in our lifetimes). I know the idea of dealing with death, especially your own, can be a scary and confusing thing. But it needs to be done, as it is a natural part of life. on a related but somewhat lighter note: Unus Anus - Momento Mori

@shinkutsume It isn't an issue i deal with personally. However people are constantly treating it as if it were a way to cheat death. In that vein I like to view having children as a way to continue one's self. If I go back far enough, there was once a caveman who was gnawing on a piece of raw meat thinking that there has to be a way to have a better world and a better life. I am his descendant continuing that dream of his, and by continuing that dream he still lives in some form.

I would hate to have to continually subscribe to anti-virus, malware protection, and most of all, ad blockers for my damn brain. That's all I can see happening with this. Instead of companies fighting for your time and attention, they will now be inside you constantly. All the information Facebook sold about you will seem small by comparison if you let them in. Woooooo, spooky net stories and such.
