Humans are selfish by nature. They seek self gain for their survival and culture group's survival. Even if it means stepping on others to achieve that, humans will do it. Take it from someone taking a shit load of anthropology and philosophy classes in college.

i think the issue is less the ingrained 'self preservation through selfishness' that is in our DNA, and more the fact that we dont know these people and are unable to properly empathize with them personally I believe that a form of hive mind would benefit humanity substantially. if we had a cloud consciousness then we would feel other peoples feelings and be able to understand them better and basically force empathy change my mind
