i think you're spot on putting the tinfoil hat on, but i get the feeling that this is just a general strategy they have planned, may not necessarily involve the debates, but very well could. who knows what could happen at this point? it's like a super suspenseful show or game but it's with our lives and the planet =p

Regarding comparisons to Johnson, this does make me kind of salty, because of how it didn't tank his approval *nearly* as much as it should've. That was another case of a person with a large amount of institutional power exercising it in such a callous and incompetent way that they contracted the virus themselves. Upon recovery he should've been metaphorically and symbolically crucified for that. Though I *am* worried that taking Trump off the circuit (in a similar way to how Johnson sort of was before the 2019 election) will decrease the rate at which his approval rating tanks.
