This one is hard. I listen to all sorts of music. Well not actually too hard. The opening prelude to Mass in b minor by Bach is my number five. Kyrie Elesion vividly sets the tone for Mass with this powerful display of religious romanticism. Very powerful work most of the time, not everyone can make it pop. Hit or miss. 5. https://youtu.be/bbyQRaDekuo 4. Forever Young by alphaville feels timeless everytime I hear it. It universally captures the reluctance towards losing your youth, but we of course know that the world doesn't just end after 27. https://youtu.be/t1TcDHrkQYg 3. Peaceful Sleep from Nier:Automata goes crazy, I feel bad ranking it. However, I have not heard anything nearly as innovative aside from Playboi Carti's baby voice tracks. Has no business being as hype as it is. https://youtu.be/oHQi712jthU 2. I wish I was sober by Frightened Rabbit definitely has a place here for me. Scott talks about the half-witted desire to be free of alcoholism, but being helpless to it. The subject is serious, but the tone is optimistic for a reason not told or implied. https://youtu.be/Ki2FdTDhx7E 1. At number one, I have An idea is greater monument than a cathedral by empire empire. I put this at the top because it's part of, and the climax of an emotional and philosophical dive into what it means to die; the different ways you die. My boy uses a few words with dual meaning. When he says your body cries out before the heart realizes you've already given up. He means to tell of the natural aim to beat death, but our bodies and spirits will tell us when to go even if our minds dont desire it. He wrote this song about his dog, but these emotions are universally held. No one wants to die, but we give up when it becomes too painful in spirit and mind often before our bodies want to give up. Existence is painful. https://youtu.be/xV8AdsonY1E
