There are always acceptions to the rule but in times of crisis and danger, the ability to fill those needs constrained. A biological response will likely take precedence over an emotional one. Hate to use it as an example, but think of the Walking Dead. The writer focused on how people will interact with one another in a post apocalyptic world. What actions they would take, what defines good and evil, and faced with extinction, would those values change. It wouldn't be something that changes immediately, but I do think it's a course we are already on, only slowed by how stable we are as a civilization. [Shrugs~ I'll likely be one of the first to die on an apocalypse so I dont really have to worry about what my marital status will be by then]
