Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is by far in a league of its own. The show unlike Monster Musume has a story to actually tell about an unconventional couple living together and experiencing day to day life. We get to see what makes people truly human as they work with others viewed as not trying to fit in a society that probably would not accept them outright at first if they were not disguised as otherwise. Dragon Maid is about finding the beauty of humanity in those that should lack or not be considered as having such which is sweet. I like Dragon Maid for much of the same reasons I enjoy Somali and the Forest Spirit. As for favorite character's aside from Kanna who by default melts hearts and souls, I am a big fan of Fafnir. His love of playing video games like Demon's Souls with his actual appearance being an homage to Sebastian from Black Butler with none of the charm made me an instant fan. Being less outwardly accepting of humans or showing emotions like Tohru made him unique from the rest of the cast. Later as he becomes accustomed to being a roommate to Kobayashi's coworker Takiya, we get to see Fafnir's growth as a character. He goes from distrusting of others with a need to hoard treasures into a semi-normal person that wants to share his time with a friend. https://i.pinimg.com/736x/ea/cb/b3/eacbb376e163ff1ea383b89b5a629c9d--kobayashi-san-miss-kobayashis-dragon-maid-fafnir.jpg Monster Musume in my opinion is more of a sex show. I can't say I am motivated by any of the characters in terms of narrative. Everything is a setup for fanfiction or hentai with no actual message. Not to say characters don't have any lovable personality traits, but I can't say with a straight face that it isn't just a soft-core porn show. To be clear, I am not saying that's wrong, I'm saying it isn't a real narrative to learn or explore. The world is a fetish and you get exactly what you see. Dragon Maid may indeed have fetishist moments within certain interactions between characters like with Kanna and Riko, however it predominantly has intellectual depth in all other cases. That said I do think bird girl (Papi the Harpie) from Monster Musume is cute. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/QB4F8H6xNfA/hqdefault.jpg

its not a very good comparison? one has multiple monster girls and has a contained universe around them and the other only has dragons and a more ethereal other dimension better example i think would be centaur no nayami vs monster musume both use the slice of life format and have creative universes around there creatures, but one uses classic monsters while the other is more nuanced https://s41.mkklcdnv41.com/mangakakalot/c1/centaur_no_nayami/chapter_89/2.jpg id say centaur no nayami wins out because of its superior world building and the about of lore that goes into the show, as well as having more natural fan service and greater mysteries to the world outside the main characters
