What got you into anime?

God. https://i.imgur.com/beFI1KV.jpg I count those shows on tv as cartoons, I didn't show an interest until coming across "Skittles".

A complex story it is, it started long ago, back when I didn't know the difference between anime and cartoons, when I got hooked on re-runs of DBZ Kai and a few exposures to FMA and Cowboy Bebop on Adult Swim at a friend's house. Later my dad had introduced me to his favorite anime, Robotech a.k.a Macross, as well as one night in which I had discovered Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom on the Funimation channel. A few years later when I was 12-13, I had finally understood when I started watching AoT, Death Note, and SAO on Netflix. Unfortunately, it was SAO that had pulled me down the rabbit hole. Now I am here, wishing I had cash for the $300 Guts figurine I found on Amazon and watching Ascendance of a Bookworm in pure bliss.

Adult Swim anime, then I went and found there message board and was hooked. When I was like 14 maybe, I found Neon Genesis Evangelion when I was going through the channels way too late at night and was like wtf is this. Then got into all the other adult swim anime as well.

I think the first anime I've ever seen is Guyver, my friend's older brother had it on VHS tape. Didn't know that was anime though, but then I started seeing cartoons that looked similar and it's just been a downward spiral from there.

Its been a LONG time. But I believe I started with Toonami when it ran every weekday afternoon, and would run things like the horribly butchered first English dub of Sailor Moon. Looking back it was awful, but between age and the internet not really being a household item back then, I didn't know any better, and I had never seen anything like it.

There was a cable channel called network 1 that would randomly play anime films like Fist of the North Star, Vampire Hunter D, Dirty Pair, etc. Then I found the vhs anime section of my local Blockbuster. I was also watching Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon on public tv before it showed up on toonami

I was introduced to SAO by a friend and I loved that anime XD I'm aware of it's shortcomings now, but at the time it was the best thing ever lol. I still like it quite a bit cuz it was the first one I ever watched and therefore left a lasting impression.
