#1 reason

Other than anime and manga what is the #1 reason that you think japan is awesome? for me it is that at least back in feudal japan there were no labels on sexuality. there were no labels like "straight" "gay" "bi" or anything like that.

Personally, I like how Japan can go modern, but still look back into the traditional/historic age. Like they really value their culture. And in America, we go modern and only celebrate stuff into the modern age, there isn't really culture involved at all anymore..

i think its because the daily life style in Japan. Their culture is very interesting and unique and the people in Japan are very respectful and i like that a lot.I live in Los Angeles and it sucks seeing graffiti everywhere, disrespectful people, and of course the main problem here in the U.S is the increase of crime rates. I always picture Japan as a peaceful place to live in.

Japan has DISCIPLINE instilled in its culture, whereas around Los Angeles (I'm light323's neighbor, relatively), I look at the things people do, think and speak about 24/7 and I'm disgusted! There's a high level of disrespect, a total disregard for academics(another reason why Japan is strong - they PRIORITIZE academics for the good of their country, and as a result, they're pretty high up on the global education list). I also really love their origin mythology and other tales told, because they are so infused with nature while at the same time intertwining it with city life, like Spider Woman or other old stories. In the cities around Los Angeles, there is a high concentration of immigrants coming in from poorer countries whose societies were still stuck in that stage full of corrupt governments, horrible economies, and whatnot. They come over here thinking of all the opportunity, but they end up acquiring low level jobs at the Home Depot nearby if lucky, and care more about working(income) than raising their damn kids with plugs in their ears and STDs by 13 (I'm exaggerating, but all around South Gate, Maywood, Bell, and Huntington Park and Vernon, I know people and this is the sad reality for them because their parents didn't instill in them a sense of culture and a wider viewpoint). Well, that was long, but I deem the above necessary for you to understand why Japan is awesome. Overall, they're not fucking stupid. That's why I hate Los Angeles. Too much stupid is concentrated in one place. That's why there is even a DEMAND for expansion of the Los Angeles Graffiti Cleanup department.

Well most immigrants from LA are from southern america so all our parents are like that. Also I believe Every country has the same values but some treasure them more than others also jpan has the same level as education and values as mexico but I still like the way of life and tradition

(No, not all parents are like this... my parents are what seems to be the exception for our demographic in this little region. My dad's not working in retail or anything. All my other cousins talk about is how "asian" my family is just because of his pushing us towards discipline and education. My mom is a homemaker, because how else could you possibly raise seven kids with one parent working already? You gotta have the mom at home for cases similar to mine... but that's the float for another boat.) Anyway, back on topic. >.< Yet ANOTHER reason that distinguished Japan from many other countries is the cool stuff that came about from the virtual isolation of the culture and people made possible by the fact that it's an island.

I would have to agree on the feudal Japan part but also the way that Japan went from a secluded nation to one of the top economic nations in the world in a few decades.
