Bans?

I don't know what limitations there are in hosting this website, such as I don't know the coding or anything, but is it possible to ban an email address when banning users so they can't so easily just make a new account? I understand that they could simply just make a new email address, but that's an additional loop for them to jump through, which could prove to be just too much hassle to simply try and troll a forum. So, for example, if a user is banned, that email address is banned rather than the IP address, which can simply be changed. In order for the user to make a new account, that email address has to be unbanned by site admins. Again, not sure what the limitations are, if this is something that's already being done, or if it's even possible to do so, but it popped into my mind.

No, I've just been reporting them where to one of the site admins whenever I see them just in case they're unaware of them at the time. I was just thinking earlier today about potential ways at making it less worth the effort for trolls. If you have to make a new email address, then make a new account, then post something only to get banned immediately, is it worth doing it a hundred times as opposed to simply registering a new account?

It's when you have enough free time on your hands.

in theory you can block an ip + an email address but tbh the only viable and easy way to block ppl from creating "bad" accounts is to force a unique phone number to be required for every account.... buuuut most ppl dont like this xD

^ pretty much. It’s hard to really ban someone considering all the ways around it. If you ban through someone’s email they can creat a new email. Ban through ip then they can change their ip. If they required you to add a phone number to sign up then most people wouldn’t want to do that. And as already stated there are disposible phone numbers (I believe there’s an app called text me or something like that) in which you can generate a random number. Gotta love the internet

Of course there's always ways around it, but the point I was kind of going for was making it more inconvenient to do so. Banning an email means that if someone really wants to troll the forums, they'll have to keep making new email accounts repeatedly. If it's a phone block, then they'd have to make new fake phone numbers in order to make more accounts. The point being, it should be more effort than they're willing to put in just to say a racial slur and get immediately banned.

I think most of these guys use those throwaway email websites that only last five minutes anyway. Honestly the only way we can get rid of trolls is teach people to just be decent human beings. As was stated before, they will find a way no matter what.
