This opening at this point of the series conveys so much, the main thing being Reinhard's solitary path as the Kaiser of the Galactic Empire, without his closest friend by his side anymore. He's essentially alone, even with all of the people who are incredibly loyal to him. Then there's last few seconds where you see the two protagonists Reinhard, and Yang cross each other's paths, silently acknowledging each other. Reinhard's cape even stops it's majestic flowing in the wind to let Yang pass, which is quite a grand gesture considering Reinhard throughout the series essentially feels as if he's alone in the universe with no one to match him as an equal in both warfare and intellect aside from his childhood friend, who is gone at this point in the series. But throughout the series he has acknowledged how skilled Yang is as a commander and generally has a great deal of respect for him despite him being on the opposing side of the war.
