Oh boy Another Gun Control Debate! What Fun! -w-
chocopyro
No context answer: Yes. Technical answer: We need to start taking mental conditions seriously to begin with, more than we need to restrict gun rights. Like make it a national incentive to figure out how to treat mental conditions at their source rather than just drug them up and send them on their way. Moral answer: 12 people are dead. Lets catch the guy first. Gun right discussions can wait. Yes, I'm left leaning, but as a weapon owner myself, I am a bit biased. (Even if I don't own firearms.)

I've honestly pondered what the best solution is for a while. On one hand I'm like, we need to be more strict on who can purchase and own guns. On the other hand, what's to stop the government from eventually over enforcing things and stripping away guns from those who are even sane? Another problem, someone could be sane when they purchase a gun, but go insane later in life. I do think everyone (who is sane) should have the right to bear arms, because fact is criminals will get guns whether purchasing guns is strictly enforced or not. While this may be a silly example, I remember when I was watching Kino's Journey, she visited a city that was lawless, and everyone had weapons. One might think "hm, that'll just lead to crime all over the place!", only because everyone had weapons, no one who lived there actually wanted to do crime. I think to an extent that would hold true in real life as well (in the context of owning weapons). Now I know gun control is high in Japan, and crime rate is low there, but I would think less guns would be illegally smuggled there (correct me if I'm wrong). Here in the US at least, guns are all over the friggin place, so I just don't think stripping away guns would be helpful honestly. I feel like it's a very complex problem.

I'm in favor of the stricter background checks, but I don't think we should make it fundamentally harder to get guns. So keep weapons out of the hands of potentially dangerous people, but don't hinder people who can handle themselves. In almost every shooting we've seen pop up, it's been someone who isn't right in the head, not just your average joe that thinks, hey imma shoot up a bar today. I do agree with chocopyro though, we should be treating mentally ill people not just limiting their privileges and drugging them up. It's always better to fix the problem than to cover it up.

Pretty sure the whole Gun Debate was handled promptly in the last topic you made, So, Obviously. No. I don't want even more people to end up dead just because some people are afraid of a tool instead of the individuals. Best to take care of the sick, So Tragedies like these continue to be even less frequent.

Kind of hard to make a convincing case for gun control considering this happened in California, the state with arguably the strictest gun laws in the country.

If you live by the gun you should die by the gun. Kill them fucks already

Wish we could do both mental and other gun checks. The more people leave people alone and stuff and all that kinda makes the ppl go coo coo kinda hard to deal with in large population to or hard to see stuff if the murder kills them self. I wonder about studies on mental stuff relating tbh and what we have so far on the minds of people
