"The misuse of knives is minimal and definitely not mass murder related.. all i said was you comparing guns to knives is like comparing nuclear weapons to guns! All can be misused, but there is a limit where u see the misuse/risk vs profit." I'm willing to say that knives are used MORE often in crime due to their lower cost and easier access. And knives have often been used as mass murder weapons, especially in China where mass stabbings often leave more people dead than at American school shootings.

im not even for a ban on guns i think thats too idealistic and not realistic i think we should adopt canada's gun laws theyr liberal enough that civilians can own guns, but they keep a way better eye on registration and gun owners it would be the best compromise for both parties

@oof https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/editorials/if-you-make-up-mass-knife-attacks-you-lose-the-gun-control-debate/ Not sure about credibility but it conveys what i wanted to say.

Hell the UK has very strict gun control and now their knife homicides are through the roof and now the UK is abuzz with "knife control". It isn't the guns - sane Americans realize this. The problem with 95% of suggested "solutions" are commonly.. *they unduly burden the rest of society who have done nothing wrong *the function of the restriction will do little or nothing to prevent the purported problem *they are ignorant of the function of guns and how they actually operate *they are already on the books *they are too idealistic (great in theory - would be horrible in practice) For example IN THEORY I am for mental health checks and criteria when it comes to the ability to purchase or own a gun. However IN PRACTICE it would be a complete fucking disaster. Who gets to decide what level of "crazy" is too "crazy" to own a gun? What parameters would we use? Appeal process? At bare minimum there would have to be a very detailed and specific criteria, a second opinion, a through appeal process with due process rights. Even with all of that there is way too much room for abuse. Even if these "mental health screens" prevent a whacko or two from getting a gun - they could also prevent someone from access to a gun who needs them. People rarely make this connection or see this which is sad because the people who most often preach "equality" "diversity" and things of that nature don't realize that there isn't anything quite as equalizing as guns. Guns are the only thing that equalize race, gender, sexuality, religion, etc like no other movement, ideology, or what have you. They put a petite woman on equal footing with a bodybuilding man, they create the "awakening" in another person about to commit a hate crime that "this race/sexuality" has the ability and right to stop that oppression.

I don't know how we can come together when our history is littered with nothing but division, American 'culture' not even more than a century ago was a culture where we were essentially in a racial caste system. And some might argue that hasn't gone anywhere even today. I think the best thing we can do is take a good look at the history of this country and tell ourselves "no, we can't go back to that. we need to do better" I actually kinda find it both amazing and horrifying that people just don't really seem to understand the extent of damage that slavery and post slavery Jim Crow laws/culture left.

@oof Fbi's annual compilation of US crime statistics https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2016/crime-in-the-u.s.-2016/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-4.xls "11,004 people were murdered with some type of firearm in 2016, compared to 1,604 people killed with knives or other cutting instruments." Its credible source.. so meh..

Look up the 2014 Kunming attack, for an example of a mass knife attack.
