Most anime ease into stuff like that a bit more. You aren't going to see it in the first episode (unless it's straight up hentai). That way people kind of get an idea what they are getting into a head of time. I think people who normally get super offended stop watching by that point, or at least know enough to expect it. But I don't think anyone was expecting it. They got blindsided. Thus the reaction. Most of the people who are upset about it are still going to keep watching. They just had a strong moral reaction, which again is the RIGHT reaction. And for the most part, it's the reaction the author hoped for. No need to hate on them.

Really? I found the first episode to be normal for this type of anime. But granted I did read the manga, so I was a bit prepared for what was about to happen.

I thought Grimgar of fantasy and ash did character vulnerability really well. Goblin slayer just takes it to 11 within one episode, what a way to set the tone early... Oh sod it, on to the next episode!
