Animal Rights,Meat Consumption and lab grown meat

So guys what are your thoughts on lab grown meat? Does it disgust you? Weird you out? Are you for it? Do you think if scientists can perfect this, will it truly reduce animal suffering and feed the hungry? Me? I'm totally for it. I'll consume said meat as long as it's good and safe to consume. I always thought in the back of my mind that I might be wrong for consuming meat since what I'm eating was once apart of another living being. No I'm no vegan and have no plans on becoming one ever. But I thought to myself since I eat meat should I feel bad when an animal such as a dog or cat dies when millions of other animals are slaughtered for our consumption? But on the same token we as people require meat for us to sustain a healthy functional body. I know there are supplements, but I hear supplements may not give you the appropriate nutrients meat can give you. A youtuber named Andywarski said he quit the vegan diet due to him never being full and constantly shitting, when he went to eating meat again he was able to feel full and he didn't need to keep using the restroom. Blair White another youtuber quit veganism after ten years due to health related issues. So since we know there are people who need meat for them to live, do you think lab grown meat can do it for those people as well as the rest of us? If lab grown meat is perfected and we no longer need to kill animals for their meat what do we do with all of this livestock? It's alot to take it, but case in point, I'm for lab grown meat. I'm for reducing animal suffering for our consumption I don't think we're necessarily evil for consuming meat(although radical vegans beg to differ)but if an alternate such as lab grown meat were to work, would you go for it? Also what are your morals when it comes to meat consumption? Watch the video and leave your thoughts. This should be an interesting topic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QO9SS1NS6MM

I remember first hearing about this. In theory it sounds like a great idea, but I for one am a bit wary of consuming something made in a lab. If people want to try it, then go for it. But I'd wait a few years (maybe a decade or two) before I'd be willing to switch over to it as only then we'll see the pros and cons of long term effects of consuming lab-made meat. But if it turns out in the long run there are no more serious health complications from eating lab-meat than real meat, then I'd fall in line with that.

to live is to cause death, but the point is to reduce suffering veganism is healthier for the planet and yourself lab grown meat is a great start but it typically uses calf blood

Personally I rarely eat meat anyway, not for any real reason other than I just don't like the taste or the texture. Sometimes if I think deeply about it I don't particularly enjoy the slaughtering of animals for food but I do understand it since as you said humans do require the nutrients it provides. I haven't run into any health issues just yet save for maybe anaemia but I can cope with iron pills. If I did enjoy meat though I wouldn't mind it being lab-grown so long as it didn't harm me of course. If it tastes the same, feels and looks the same then well, what's the issue? Unless you're just kinda cruel and would rather imagine it being from an animal in which case, cool. You do you.

I will never be a vegan. I disagree with most of that and I have arguments but I'm procrastinating so maybe later or another time XD Animal rights though, I'm mixed about it. More towards them having some though, but it depends. AND NO MY VIEWS ON VEGANISM SURPRISINGLY DON'T CLASH WITH ANIMAL RIGHTS. Too lazy to explain rn xd Lab made meat, also mixed, but for some other reasons.

It all depends, If the meat is as good as normally grown meat, with Nutrients, flavor, and no specific drawbacks, chemically or otherwise, Then there's no reason for me not to, Other price, and with time, odds are it would become cheaper in time. It all depends on the animal, If they are a sentient animal, like Us for example, or one's that are arguably sentient, like Elephants or Dolphins, than I decide not to eat them. It's all about the context on the animal. Cats and Dogs are as intelligent as 3 year olds(or can be.) But I wouldn't go as far to say a three year old is exactly sentient yet, or most definitely not self aware. Now that said I love animals(And they love me for some odd reason), but I also love how they taste, so I'll always be eating meat in some capacity. However I'm all for creating the least amount of suffering in any sense, so if Lab meat is the way to go than I'm all for it.

@leo, meat is already typically fortified with nutrients, so lab grown meat would obviously be as well problem with lab grown meat is the taste beef is one of the hardest tastes to replicate, and as someone whos eaten enough fake meats, i have to agree (vegan chickens pretty good though, tofu captures the texture nicely) also, all animals are sentient, your talking about better cognitive ability to comprehend and understand suffering, which all animals display, but i absolutely agree marine mammals and elephants and parrots have a human like response to suffering (things like suicide and self harm) but just because an animal will not kill itself doesnt exactly show off a lower cognitive ability to perceive pain and suffering. also cats are not intellegent animals, theyr pretty dumb. so are some breeds of dogs. so based on that logic you would eat the lesser intelligent dogs? also pigs are extraordinarily intelligent, and cows are smart enough to solve primitive puzzles, so to base it off intelligence is not a good tactic i had a teacher who didnt eat mammals, only fish and reptiles, id start there if you want to draw the line in ethics

I'm both an animal lover, and a carnivore. So, if we could "Perfect" synthetic meat, and get it abundant enough to be easy to get a hold of and reduce the cost, then I'm onboard. It's not just a moral reason though. I mean the amount of cows we are overbreeding contribute to a surprising portion of the CO2 release each year, so the best way to solve that problem is to decrease the market demand for them. On the other hand, things we need to consider are creatures that we kinda need to hunt lest their populations get out of hand, they cause more auto mobile accidents, and they start spreading diseases within their populations, or devastating local echo systems. Organic venison should never be removed from the menu. As with all things, going spartan in one direction or another will only cause more problems than it solves. Likewise, the issue of jobs is something that will get brought up. The dairy rancher and wool shearer would be fine, but remember. Much like the fossil fuel industry, the ranching industry is a multi billion dollar industry that will not go down over night. Keeps a lot of people employed, and makes a small number of already powerful people very wealthy. That's just the way things stand.
