"Absence makes the heart grow fonder."
But real talk though, both parties (or more in the case of poly people) need to be willing to work at it and give in an equal amount of effort especially in the case of LDR as it can be very easy to lose that spark depending on the person. All of my relationships have been in person so I can't speak much from experience in that regard but my brother on the other hand is dating someone from the States (we live in good ol' Canada land) and despite everything they've managed to stay together for well over two years plus two other years of friendship before that. (With marriage in mind from what I'm told, and she has a kid from another relationship so imagine the work put into maintaining that level of commitment.) It requires a lot of trust and commitment for everyone involved so just be wary of that and I'm sure it'll work out if you're all willing to put in the effort. Definitely not for everyone though, especially if you don't have a Buddhist-monk level of patience and get lonely very easily. (I still say go for it though because you never really know how it'll work out until you try!)

As long as both parties are fully invested in each other and willing to put up with the distance then it can absolutely work out. As long as there's love and you're both actively making attempts to meet up as much as possible then it can definitely work.

My two cents. LDR work but both people need to be willing to make it work. At some point both will need to put an effort to visit one another.
I've had a few LDRs first one didn't work out. My second one was worse by cheating on me twice and put me through a lot of emotional abuse.
I'm more then willing to make a LDR work. So long as the other person is willing to put in the same amount of effort if not more. If there not willing to try then I just move on and find someone else willing to put in the time and effort.

I think this has a lot to do with the end goal? Personally, I need some sort of plan that is realistic. Otherwise, it does sound like a pipe dream that I am incapable of following. I would encourage anyone that truly is committed and believes in a LDR with someone but I just hesitate for me because I can be pessimistic.

I have had successful LDR's as long as people are legit.
I mean NO BS... up front and honest...
like I am not here to F with you, GIMME THE SAME RESPECT..
Sadly a lot of people are all about illusions and pretense, and as soon as something else peaks the interest disappearing.
But if people can actually be legit, its all good.
