Suicide (and other heavy subjects) in media

I've been thinking of writing up another novel I've had in the back burner for a while now, but it's kind of heavy on controversial topics such as rape and suicide. How do you guys reckon this sort of thing should be handled in a novel (or other medium), if at all? (I'm gonna write it down regardless but I'd rather not have offended people at my internet throat too, already do irl.)

Handle it however you want, just as long as you don't encourage it. I've never felt that any subjects should not be talked about. You may inevitable hurt someone's feelings, but you're probably going to do that anyways.

I personally don't get offended by almost anything, but I totally understand that there's a ton of people that don't feel this way. So yeah, I'm comfy with it being really dark. Not talking about a certain topic only festers bad shit imo.
