I wouldn't get a newest generation phone just because current releases aren't that much better than previous generations. Save yourself some cash and get something one or two generations older. I have an S7 edge and I wouldn't consider getting anything for awhile. Before I was on an S4.

I also kind of want to wait until a new kind of battery hits the market. What kind of battery specifically I don't know, but there's a lot of interesting stuff on the way.

I wouldn't expect a new type of battery to hit the market for at least another 3-5 years. A large part of it is going to be getting people off lithium. Interestingly enough, the man involved with the creation of the lithium ion battery (Mr.Goodenough), is working on a better battery. One that should far exceed the lithium ion battery. USING GLASS!

You can't just get off lithium. It's way too addictive.
