What are the main things to keep a relationship going?

devo1
I know that I'm known for asking the obvious questions, but this question is one I wanted to ask for awhile.

#1.Honesty. #2.Open communication. #3.Patience, a willingness to forgive and the ability to admit when you are wrong. #4.Willingness to commit time, effort, energy and possible finances. Everyone has their own formula for what works, but above all, honesty and communication reign supreme.

It's definitely a give and take with compromiseS. Be willing to at times do what she wants and hopefully she'll give you the same respect. definitely respect each other. Never stop trying to show how much you want her in your life. don't be overly possessive. don't talk or even want anybody else. If that starts happening on either side than the relationship really is slipping. do simple things that shows you care. You don't have to bend o er backwards but stuff like a simple shoulder rub or cooking a meal shows it. try to talk about interests on both sideS and if anything is bugging you or there is a problem talk it out. When the spouse can tell something is wrong and you don't say anything it worries and at times frustrates them. this is just me but cuddles! Cuddles are awesome!

I honestly have no idea. There's a lot of ideals, but I've seen various types of relationships that last for a long time, and others that fit the ideals that didn't last at all. I think the only thing you can do is to try your best (but don't try TOO hard).

Just being honest with yourself and your partner. Lies come back and bite you in the behind.

I think everyone who replied already said pretty much everything there is to be said, but I'll try to add what I can. First, both people in the relationship must be as honest as possible. That means no secrets. Lying too much is almost guaranteed to kill the relationship. A very important thing that most people don't seem to realize about relationships is it requires both people involved to be committed to it. If the relationship is too one-sided then it'll fall apart. Both people have to contribute to it to keep it as balanced as possible. And of course: patience. Give the relationship time to develop. Don't try to rush it or else it'll end badly. Also, you have to be patient with your partner. Like you, he or she is just a human. There might be a few things about your partner that you don't like, but you should look past their flaws and accept who they are. That means accepting the good and the bad. That being said, don't try to change them. You shouldn't have to change yourself either because of your partner. However, if you do want to change for them that's fine but you have to want to change and has to be something positive. (Things like losing weight, breaking an addiction, being less shy, that sort of thing)
