I have that kinda depression where I don't even really feel like I have it. And when I realize I'm in a down cycle, I take the time to explore myself and my reality. Of course doing this will only bring my mood down at first. Coming to harsh realizations is a rather counter intuitive process to put yourself through. But by now I know how to navigate various different types of problems. And knowing I'm not invincible strangely comes as a blessing.
And yeah, like Vomit says, staying in good physical shape, eating right, and getting proper sleep really does help.
