Do you consider the desire for telepathy creepy?

roszondas3
i dont think others want my thoughts either. everyone has things they dont want others to know, and when everyone simultaneously knows, they can sympathize. either a hive mind, or enslavement without realization that i exist, or death. one of those things would be nice.

Not at all. People always want to feel special and telepathy is one of many paths to feel special, at least before the realization sets in that you'll find the worst things in a person's mind. Having something that gives you an edge on everyone else around you? Most would sign up for it in a heartbeat. And lots of people want to have powers. In short, the desire is not creepy at all. But there are plenty if creeps that would try to abuse it.

I dunno VeZ. It feels sorta rapey doesn't it? If a person doesn't want to say something to you then you forcing your way into their mind to figure it out seems skeevy don't it? It's even more personal than your body. It's your mind. Your innermost thoughts, feelings, hopes, fears, dreams, insecurities, etc. It's YOU. No one has the right impose themselves on that. And desiring to do so... I dunno, I don't really see a method of doing so that doesn't at least border on abuse.

It is creepy when you think of how it could be abused. But people are always the exception to their own rules. It's only creepy when you think about someone else doing it to you. I couldn't count how many times I wished I knew what other people thinking. ( and not for creepy reasons)

As far as hive minds go... There are a lot of people who annoy me with just what comes out of their mouths. I wouldn't want to constantly hear them inside my head. You'd have to kill them to shut them up... There'd be a LOT of deaths.

I see it as something that depends on the individual. If it's someone that has had telepathy for some time, chances are that they know to be careful with reading minds and probably wouldn't go farther than the surface. I personally have trouble expressing myself at times so having my mind read does have a good use in order to better get what I want to tell someone. I'm not saying to use it every chance you get, but I can see a mutual bond of trust forming so that the telepath can know when it's safe to read your mind. You can even have little private conversations between yourselves within your own heads even in the middle of a crowd. I'm not saying that I want random people to come up and read my mind whenever, but like computer hackers, you have different kinds so chances are that there might be some telepaths who would respect limits and could be cool friends.

@VeZeal https://media.giphy.com/media/12XmVKTL2CkKLC/giphy.gif I agree with Vez, and thats how I would see it too

@wes that would probably start out that way, over time, it would become more of a collective concious, and thoughts would eventually become rather similar in nature. it would more or less be a giant think tank, every persons thoughts would collide and collide, new ideas and information until they start to stop colliding and mesh together with ideas that don't make sense to the hive mind thrown out. kind of like one giant brain that just isn't physically connected to eachother.

On a lighter note, having two telepaths in a room: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T7N1ZqKZ50

even if it was creepy I wouldnt care. Knowing people's thoughts would be so advantageous in all aspects of life.
