The difference between passion and obsession. I have to say I'm not really bothered by Weebs. Obsessions are not healthy but at least Weeaboos don't usually hurt anyone with their particular obsession. Aside from the feelings of some elitists. Many Otakus actually have gone through a Weeb stage so it could also just be the first phase of infatuation that many people have when they first immerse into a culture. I only see a problem with it when they actually start obsessing over japanese people (i.e. only befriending them because they're japanese, or trying to disgustingly desperately get a japanese bf/gf). If they just collect katanas, hump their body pillows and add unnecessary japanese words to their speech I don't give a shit lol.

weeaboos are cringe, thats the difference. with real otaku you have people who love the anime culture as a whole. we dont go around saying "kyaaa sugoi mike-sama, that was very kawaii-desu" and try to act like we are japanese cuz we saw like 3 episodes of naruto earlier that day. otaku are the real anime fans and we dont stick to the mainstream stuff like sao, attack on titan, naruto, and pretty much anything that airs late night on toonami.

I believe the difference between weebs and otakus is that weebs will watch an anime, and try to learn japanese from it or add japanese phrases/words to their sentences. Otakus are the ones that appreciate the anime they watch but don't usually take it farther than that.

I was in the midst of trying to explain my point of view, but I realized my post was just a repeat of everything Xynomi said. I've gone through a weeb stage in high school, and heck, I still have that part inside my soul somewhere. So the way I see it, a weeabu is simply an Otaku taking things further than your typical enthusiast. (To the point where it can annoy people).
