Treated like humans? Typically, thier word held less weight and still does in a lot of middle eastern countries, but that's another topic for another day.

I know many muslim women who are direct refugees from various middle eastern countries through my old job, and many of their husbands and fathers, and grandfathers (Go figure, the whole family typically likes to work at the same places together.) And I haven't exactly witnessed any suppression of their words in their interactions. Lo and behold. Moderates exist everywhere. But indeed, I get what you're saying, and it is infact a topic for another day.

The concept of virgin births isn't new. Horus in Egyptian mythology was born of Isis while she was a virgin. Athena was born of Zeus directly from his head. Alexander the great claimed his mother had a dream of her womb being struck by lightning before his conception. He even had Egyptian priests further his claim that he was the son of Amun Ra (who was seen as Zeus in Greek cultures.) Virginity evokes a divinity. We're not just talking about about just sex. Virginity can mean a purity of spirit. Instead of being corrupted by the material world the spirit transcends it. Of course that is if you believe in such things.

Looking it up I see Isis put Osiris back together but couldn't retrieve his penis and fashioned a golden phallus. I think I remember reading that before but must have heard the Horus virgin birth somewhere else.

It shows how women actually held power for real. Joseph knew that baby wasn't his. A "white" family having a "black" baby? Joseph didn't want the town to call his wife a slut so he ran with what Mary said & praised God. (Michael Che reference)

@hecatia Not trying to poke any holes. Everyone has their beleifs. I can't find what you said. Looking around I see Isis fashioned a golden phallus. Not cut off the penis. That is beside the point. My post was to mention that the virgin birth is not new and evokes a divine status when used.

*Evokes* Just thought I'd mention that since invoke and evoke are a little bit different. Also, Christianity and the birth of Jesus are similar to mithra(Meh...mind the being born from a rock 'n what not.), more so than Egyptian mythology. But, there are even so, quite a few differences.
