How not to get catfished

Reverse image search is still pretty flaky, I've used it lots. It can only find well used images, not very thorough. Mostly try their username. People tend to reuse usernames or variations of a username across multiple profiles. Also if you can find an email or birthday or real name you got them. I tracked down one person because of username and birthday and rough location. I found about 2 dozen profiles going back 8yrs. Some had emails (all registered under fake names). The oldest profile had a real name. So then I had real name, birthday and general location. I googled the real name and username and found a myspace and evidence of deleted facebook. I eventually found their actual address. Reverse searching that address gave me a list of people living at that address and family members who live elsewhere as well as real estate info on the house, when it was purchased for how much and how much taxes where paid every year and a google satellite image of the house.

Usalia(bored), that doesn't really solve it at all. I've met a couple catfish on there who used skype to try and convince me to join the sites they 'usually hang out on', which are scam sites. I've also had plenty of bots approach me on Skype who didn't find me from any sites in particular.
