Your thoughts on women abusing men and how it is perceived in our society?

Just re-watched these videos online: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtVHnZX8E50 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzfLVyNHJgQ And I'm sure many of you have already seen this gem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlFAd4YdQks If the men fight back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNrWuZV3jjw So yeah that's pretty fcked up. If the man laid his hands on a female he gets rightfully stopped. But if a woman does the same to him then people sit back, laugh and even cheer her on? And then are ready to beat the man down if he dares to defend himself. Men make up over 40% of domestic violence victims and there is good reason to believe that actually is underrepresented considering what the general response is to men who admit they get beat by women. The guy can't fight back or he can say hello to Bogs Diamond and goodbye to any dignity he had left. So what the hell is he supposed to do? And by the way, women can and do use weapons quite often when the abuse gets physical. So none of that "men are stronger" bullshit. This is not an attempt to downplay female victims. And I feel kind of bad that I have to say that because victims are victims but there you go. Food for thought. Let me get a taste of what you're thinking.

The reason being, unlike women in these scenerios, men have the physical strenth and ability to fight back if they felt they were in danger. An onlooker sees this, and notices the man is choosing not to fight back. Why would they step in and fight his battle that he himself doesn't fight? Why does the man not fight back? They draw the conclusion that he is guilty for something, and thus the person does not interfere.

I wish people would just keep there hands to themselves. It would... idk maybe solve a lot of problems? Violence clearly doesn't work to well just look at history.

It's a product of the hyper-masculine culture that affects every race (I'm emphasizing this because usually you hear hyper-masculinity being primarily in the black community but it most definitely is not). The thought that says women are weaker and more emotional is the same one that says men need to be strong and bottle up their emotions. It's why I'm a feminist and why I volunteer at shelters and counseling programs for battered men, and have worked for lawyers on cases like when a man was raper by a woman (we won). Violence is something that definitely is present in both genders, just like nurturing is present in both genders, and it's a shame the amount of crap that these and similar victims have to go through just because of bullshit societal perceptions that are wrong.

But Arc the guys who fought back got beat up :o They weren't treated like they were less guilty but like they were more.

^halo Ah, I didn't get the chance to see the last video. I'd say the last one is the most well-executed experiment. I believe people act and make a judgement on the most likely scenario: the man is abusing the woman. Testosterone is linked to aggression, and men have more testosterone for the most part, so they have a higher chance of exhibiting physical aggression. For the bystanders in these tests, they have to draw an instant conclusion, so they pick the most likely scenario and act on it. Men are naturally programmed to protect women. Women bear children and keep the human race going. It's just natural instinct. One man can fertilize many women, so the loss of a man is far less important than the loss of a woman in the natural scheme of things. I don't think any amount of social awareness is going to change how people act in these types of situations. It's just natural instinct.

I getcha. But if we're acutely aware of our biological bias then we can work to avoid it. Instead of laughing when they see the guy getting hit, people should try to keep the two apart. Even if you think of men as less valuable in the natural scheme you still shouldn't sit back and wait till he retaliates before you step in. And as OP said guys get domestic abused statistically almost as much as girls do. Put it this way. If you see a little girl kicking a big dog for peeing on her doll you don't laugh. You pull the girl away before the dog bites her. So even if you thought of men as less valuable then women still shouldn't get violent because the man can get violent back. And if man isn't an animal and is expected to control himself then the woman should be as well. In either case when people see women acting like children and trying to solve problems with their fists the response shouldn't be to encourage it. :/
