My bad, haven't been on for a while. Well it sure isn't pleasant, I think I only have a mild version of it but it really sucks. I'm really sensitive and pretty much anything can get me down these days tbh. I finally told my parents after 5 years of depression how I felt, and I'm going to see a psychologist. Hmmm.

I have bipolar depression, so i might not count, but usually, the depression stops me from finding anime, drawing or other things i like, like my job, to be a chore.
And a lot of people ( within my social range) uses anime as a relaxant, rather a temporary depression reliever. Many of them answered with "The last thing you want to think of when you are feeling shitty is something you love." and one of my co-workers even added to this and said how, "Despite it sounding off, lots of people only want to use things they like as a treat for good work or on a happy day. When one uses something they like & do it when they are sad, sometimes a person can slowly start to feel sad around that thing because of their association with it on sad/ depressing days. "

I've had a few run ins with depression, beat it (it creeps back up every now and than but never lasts)
and I know people try to cling to things to bring a sense of normalicy, but most people who suffer from depression actually don't get that sense of "happiness" from anything, at most they get something to take their mind off the issue. (sort of like alcholism) I don't doubt anime would help.
but just so yoiu know. if anime/any other medium that doesnt alter mind (drugs, alcohol) you (thankfully) most likely don't have depression, you may be extremely stressed and upset. but most likely do not have depression

Uhmm I see lot reaction i can see myself in slighty..Mostly I got into much stuff like seeing stuff going bad that I hide myself from knowing it.. That i got used to it makes me feel that sometimes..I got a mask on that hides myself/Feelings but now i life normal with no problems but .. Can't feel real energy i used to have before exploring trouble. Like feelings change when you got hurt and you need to accept it and do it ..But that doesn't always solves you heart at ease...But aigan I life a normal life with no trouble now..And most time I watch anime So i can feel at ease. Anime mosttly let me in a world of living i deeply wanted to be part in.(Sorry for mine bad english..)

I like how some of you guys are like "You don't have depression. " Well talk to my doctor then. Or "I had it and I fought through it, now I'm better!" Good for you, but there are different kinds of depression. Or my favorite "There are people worse off than you!" If I could just be happy, I think I'd choose to be happy.
Also, though it is true some people slap a label on themselves, depression is a mental illness. In my community it seems like if you have a mental illness it is seen as a weakness, and there is stigma behind it. Others see admission to having an illness as brave and try to be supportive, but generally there is more stigma behind being depressed. People assume you are unable to control your emotions, think you are weak, etc. This isn't entirely true and people's misconceptions of what this illness is add to the stigma of being depressed.
When you are depressed, the best thing to do is seek help. This means seeing a mental health specialist, and talking to people. Talking to people is difficult when you think people are going to pass judgement on you. In my case I can quickly figure out who is understanding, and people who think they know what they are talking about but would sooner pass judgement on you because of what you deal with subjectively.
