Anyone else here have depression that is momentarily alleviated by good anime, do you think maybe people use anime as an extent to live out their fantasies because reality is so meaningless and boring.
wertingman
I wouldn't say meaningless and boring per say. For me real life is a headache and stressful. I use anime as way to smile at the end of the day. Unwind if you would. Whenever there is a depressing moment I try to seek out happiness.

i mean if you think about it the whole world is made up of people perpetually lying to themselves that they are okay that what they do in life has meaning.

Yeah pretty much. I don't suffer from severe depression, I just think life mostly sucks most of the time. Everyone in anime is so energetic and upbeat and friendly. I wish I could enter anime world and never come back out, go back to high school and find a gf or a harem, lol. Have fun adventures with great friends...My real life friends either never socialize anymore or if they do it's to go get drunk at some crappy bar or they are dead of a drug overdose or in prison.

I've been diagnosed with a mild case of it, would come and go every few weeks and last for a few days to a week at a time. Been a while since my last run in with it. Probably because I simply stopped caring so much about the things that used to upset me, and don't really care too much when things don't go my way these days. Might not be the best advice, but I think letting go of your desires/expectations, accepting your life for what it is, and learning to appreciate what you have can help a lot. Might not be for everyone but I'd say it helped me out.

@Werting I've had it for a very long time, it started with some really terrible childhood experiences and it just never went away...
vampire_neko
I have friends that suffer permanent psychological problems from childhood abuse, it's way too common.
