What is the point of Valentine's day?

I see Valentine's day as relationship appreciation day. You let her now how much you appreciate her and do whatever your can to make it a good day for her. I also try to show my appreciation to every one of my friends who are single. I don't want them to be left behind so I try hard with personalized cards to show how much my friends mean to me. If I'm single, what I always did was approximately 30 minutes of crying into my pillow starting at 8:30 am after I had my coffee. I then make sure to never turn my lights on in my living space. It must be as dark as a wolfs den. Like a hunchback, I drag my blanket around the room, never venturing too far from my computer. 4:30 pm. I gaze wistfully out the window, shrouded in my blanket. 4:40 pm. 30 minute crying session into my pillow, followed by gratuitous eating of chocolate delights that I had lied to the cashier that I was buying for my girlfriend. It was on sale so whatever. 8pm. I start drinking. Whatever I can get my hands on. I then watch sappy videos as if to drive the dagger into my own heart. 10pm. I am now curled up into a ball in the middle of my room sobbing. 11:55pm I pass out by the bathroom toilet. This would be my ritual if I were single on Valentine's day.

This year, I worked even though I'm not single. I could never understand getting depressed about Valentine's day when I was single and I even had a girlfriend, five years ago, break up with me, via text , on Valentine's day, after we had been together for six and a half years... No...No resentment...*ahem*... No, this year my Valentine's day came early, but then again, I feel lucky in that I don't need just one day to show my love. Even if things were to break apart today, I'd say I had/have a wonderful woman who truly loves me like no other and I her. It was a good past few days and I see no sign of it slowing down or stopping.

@Tota Konoe, @holyfuk and @yaasshat make good points hard to believe people have been celebrating VD for centuries.

Wow you all got really heat in to this. I'm kind of surprise your all strongly opinion about it. It is a pointless holiday where if you are in a relationship you do something romantic. Those for single people valentine times day is every either Friday or Saturday night. Since it is more likely a first date will happen on one of these two nights. So there is no point to having it. I like the Chinese Singles Day. Witch is more for everyone. Since it is a big sales day. Witch really low prices.
